The lighter rotating mass can make throttle response feel crisper. Expect slight handling differences and retune slipper or gearing if you want identical behaviour to heavier pinions.
No special tools are required beyond common hobby tools: hex keys for set screws and a feeler gauge to set mesh. A motor lock or soft jaws help when tightening the shaft screw.
It can replace many stock pinions, but confirm bore size and shaft type first. The aluminium construction reduces weight but check mesh and wear more frequently if you run high torque setups.
