The GSX1100S Katana turned heads at the 1980 Cologne Motorcycle Show with a radical new look that contrasted with mainstream designs. Its sharp profile and unique styling have made it a popular subject for plastic kit reproduction.
Designed by Hans A. Muth in West Germany, the Katana blended aerodynamic thinking with rider comfort. Features such as rearward footpegs and a shaped fuel tank were evaluated in wind tunnels to refine riding stability and comfort.
Under the Katana's skin sits an air-cooled 1075cc parallel four using Suzuki TSCC technology. With about 111 horsepower and a top speed near 230 km/h, the original combined strong performance with steady handling, details the model replicates at 1/12 scale.
Tamiya's kit provides finely moulded PS components to represent the Katana's styling faithfully. It is aimed at builders who want an accurate static model with authentic proportions and detailing.
