Scale Model of the Soviet BT-7 by Tamiya 35309

The Tamiya 35309 kit captures the BT-7 cavalry tank in 1/35 scale with crisp moulding and accurate external fittings. The model reproduces the tank's sloped armour and distinctive wheel run that made the BT-7 a fast reconnaissance asset.

Operational History and Mechanics

The BT-7, evolving from Christie influenced concepts, stood out for speed and mobility thanks to coil spring suspension and a potent engine, reaching service speeds up to about 31 mph. It also featured the option to operate on wheels when tracks were removed.

Construction and Detailing

The kit includes delicate photo-etched parts, a metal towing chain and a jig to assist with shaping brass items. Clear parts are supplied for the headlight and vision guard, while the link-type tracks assemble into accurate straight run sections.

  • Scale: 1/35
  • Length: 161mm
  • Width: 65mm
  • Includes photo-etched parts and metal towing chain
  • Link-type assembly tracks with one-piece straight sections
  • Clear parts for headlight lens and vision guard
Work on a flat surface and dry-fit sections before gluing; use tweezers for small links and apply minimal adhesive to avoid stiff joints.
Handle etched brass with care, bend using the supplied jig or a dedicated tool, and prime before painting to ensure paint adhesion.
