Fit Track Units to Expand Your Tamiya's Terrain

The Tamiya 54948 Track Unit Sets convert compatible R/C kits into tracked machines that perform better on soft and uneven ground. Taken from the Landfreeder QuadTrack idea, the units swap in for wheels to broaden where you can run your model.

Compatibility and Required Parts

These track units match several Tamiya chassis layouts including CC-01, CC-02, GF-01 (CB, TR), G6-01(TR) and WR-02 (CB). When using them on a TT-02 chassis, be sure to fit Item 50354 (16T, 17T Pinion Gear Set) and a CR-Tuned Motor (35T) to keep drivetrain reliability.

How the Tracker Design Works

The assembly uses a pivoting three-sided housing with the pivot point at the top of the roller arm plus a spring-mounted third roller to keep even contact. This gives solid traction on rough trails and soft surfaces while smoothing out irregular ground.

Track Makeup and Link Choices

Power goes to an upper drive sprocket linked to the chassis drive shaft, turning eight rollers enclosed by plastic link-type tracks with soft inserts. Metal link pins hold the sections together, and you can select either standard links or grouser links depending on the ground you expect to tackle.

They work on rough trails, but watch for sharp rocks that can damage track inserts or plastic links; maintain a cautious pace and inspect after runs.
Tracks increase load on motor and gearing in some conditions; using a resistant motor and checking heat under sustained climbs is recommended rather than adding forced cooling in most cases.
Remove the metal link pins to swap in grouser links or standard links. Work on a clean bench and keep spare pins handy for reassembly.
Most axle interfaces remain the same, but check clearance and spline compatibility; some setups may need short adapters or shims for correct fit.
Carry extra link pins, a couple of spare track links, and spare rollers to minimise downtime if a component wears or breaks in the field.
