Tamiya 58405 merges the iconic Land Cruiser 40 styling with the proven CR-01 crawler chassis to create a realistic and capable off-road platform. The polycarbonate shell captures the vintage look while keeping the weight low for technical crawling.
The CR-01 chassis relies on pressed aluminum channels and resin cross members to form a durable ladder frame. This combination offers a resilient base that manages impacts and supports heavy crawling loads without excess weight.
The drivetrain centres on a planetary gearbox fitted with a 20T pinion delivering a 40.5:1 gear ratio. Swapping pinions from 16T to 25T lets you tune ratios between 50.6:1 and 32.4:1 to suit different courses. A 540 motor is included; ESC, 2-channel radio and a 7.2V battery are required separately for final setup.
The 4-link coil suspension provides the articulation needed to climb and hold lines on uneven terrain. Inboard dampers linked to a torsion stabilizer reduce unwanted roll while allowing wheels to track independently.
The kit includes new 3-piece beadlock rims paired with 125mm x 56mm crawler tyres to boost ground clearance and traction. This wheel and tyre package is designed for slow, deliberate crawling over rocky trails.
