XF91 IJN Gray from Tamiya is a water-soluble acrylic paint made for modellers who want dependable coverage and a period-accurate tone. It applies well by brush or airbrush and sticks to styrene, foam, timber and common modelling plastics.

Shipyard Accurate Grey

The tone reflects the grey used on Imperial Japanese Navy vessels assembled at the Yokosuka Arsenal, including notable ships like Shinano and Shokaku, so it suits restoration or display builds requiring authenticity.

Mixing and Thinning Notes

For spraying, thin with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic Thinner or Tamiya Lacquer Thinner to get a smooth spray; lacquer thinner will also shorten drying time and boost durability. For brush work try Tamiya Paint Retarder (87114) to minimise brush strokes and improve leveling.

Flat XF Finish and Cleanup

The paint dries to the XF series flat finish. While still wet it washes away with water, simplifying cleanup of brushes and tools.
