1:700 SOC-3 Seagull Shipboard Observation Seaplane

A detailed 1:700 plastic kit of the SOC-3 Seagull designed for small naval displays and scale vignettes.

The Vought SOC line was introduced as a shipboard observation seaplane in the early 1930s. The SOC-3 is a subsequent production variant that served from the mid-1930s into the early years of World War II, operating from battleship and cruiser catapults for reconnaissance, artillery spotting and liaison duties. Its biplane design and ship stowage capabilities made it common aboard U.S. capital ships until carrier aircraft became predominant.

The model reproduces the SOC-3 silhouette at 1:700 scale for compact naval groupings. Measured kit dimensions are a fuselage length of about 14.33mm and a wingspan of about 16.6mm. The kit uses multiple sprues and contains several small pieces; take care with alignment, and use fine applicators for glue when fitting clear parts and rigging points.

Included decal options represent United States Navy examples in non-specular Blue Gray camouflage. There are twelve clear components supplied for canopies and windows. For credible display results, apply flat blue-gray paints and restrained weathering to preserve scale definition.

A compact, display-friendly 1:700 SOC-3 Seagull suited for modellers assembling small-ship scenes and collector cabinets.

Use a small dab of solvent cement at discrete contact points or thin superglue on the undercarriage struts; consider mounting on a micro-pin for removable display.
Watch for seam gaps on wing roots and minor misalignment of struts; light sanding and filler can correct matching faces before painting.
Soften decals with a setting solution, position on a gloss surface to avoid silvering, then seal with a flat coat to match non-specular finishes.
Use ultra-fine stretched sprue or thin monofilament and only a few strategic lines to imply rigging; excessive threads will look oversized at 1:700.
