The Trumpeter 05742 is a 1:700 scale plastic kit that recreates the heavy cruiser USS New Orleans CA-32 in her 1942 configuration and includes the choice of waterline or full-hull assembly. The parts layout and instructions focus on external accuracy for display or diorama use.
The New Orleans class represented the final tranche of interwar "Treaty" heavy cruisers completed between the world wars. Vessels in the class shared similar external lines and displaced roughly 10,136 tons standard and near 12,436 tons at full wartime load after additions such as radar, electronics, and extra anti-aircraft armament. These cruisers were heavily employed in the Pacific campaign and took part in a number of actions, with a portion of the class still in service post-1942.
Model construction concentrates on visible detail and mounting flexibility. The kit supplies separate upper and lower hull pieces plus a waterline plate so the builder can opt for waterline display or full-hull construction. Masts, superstructure parts and small fittings are provided as injection-molded components on several sprues. The decal sheet recreates the MS21 camouflage pattern used in 1942, and the instruction booklet and sprue diagrams assist accurate assembly and painting.
Aimed at collectors and display builders, this kit gives clear external fidelity and the convenience of a selectable waterline or full-hull presentation.
