The FM-1 Wildcat served as a compact but robust carrier fighter in the Second World War, and this Hobby Boss 1/48 kit recreates its characteristic silhouette and features. Built by Eastern Aircraft in Linden, New Jersey, the FM-1 variant was tailored to escort carrier duties as the navy transitioned to newer fighters for larger carriers.
With a barrel-like fuselage and tapered wing tips, the Wildcat balanced durability and handling for deck operations. The FM-1 reduced the number of guns while offering greater ammunition for each mount, a configuration suited to the tactical needs of escort missions.
The kit delivers finely moulded components for the 1/48 scale, inviting builders to add detailing, cockpit painting and weathering. When complete, the model stands out as an accurate tabletop representation of a classic naval fighter.
