The Ticonderoga program, was initially designated as a Guided Missile Destroyer, but have been redesignated as a Guided Missile Cruiser in January 1980. The Ticonderoga class had been first area combatant vessels designed with the AEGIS Weapons System, the absolute most advanced atmosphere immune system worldwide. She has right launch systems which allow them to keep and introduce significant numbers of TOMAHAWK precision hit cruise missiles against goals of army value deep in enemy territory. This land attack capability, combined due to their AEGIS anti-air missile systems, AN/SQQ-89 Undersea Warfare system and advanced C4ISR suite, lead to the ship probably the most effective surface combatant operating with any navy.
