Hobby Boss 1/35 Scale Sd.Kfz.221 Model

The Sd.Kfz.221 Leichter PanzerspƤhwagen was a light armoured car in service from 1935 to 1944. Based on the sPkw I Horch 801 chassis, its boxy armoured body and small turret were powered by a 67 kW (90 hp) Horch 3.5 petrol engine, allowing road speeds up to around 80 km/h while offering limited cross-country capability.

Where It Served

Used largely by reconnaissance units attached to armoured formations, the Sd.Kfz.221 was effective where roads were available but was less capable in rough terrain such as the Eastern Front and the deserts, which led to increased use of vehicles like the Sdkfz 250.

Assembly and Parts

This Hobby Boss 1/35 assembly captures the vehicle with fine scale fidelity. The kit contains over 320 plastic parts on 13 sprues, plus two photo-etched parts to refine small details. The upper hull is made with multi-directional slide moulding and the lower hull uses two-directional slide moulding to improve accuracy and reduce seam work.

Showcase Potential

The combination of interior fittings, rubber tyres and etched parts gives this kit strong display potential in collections or as part of dioramas. It benefits from careful painting and weathering to highlight its scale features.

Build time varies by skill level; an experienced modeller might complete the main assembly in a few weekends, while painting, detailing and weathering can add several more sessions.
Yes. Many modellers fit aftermarket brass or resin accessories for added detail, but check compatibility with the kit's hull geometry before ordering upgrades.
While assembly is straightforward, the number of parts and photo-etched components make this kit better suited to modellers with some prior experience.
