The Grumman F9F Panther was a milestone as Grumman's first jet fighter and the US Navy's second operational jet. It first flew in 1947 and used a Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet built under licence by Pratt & Whitney as the J42. To address the engine's fuel appetite, designers fitted wingtip tanks, a prominent detail reproduced on this 1/72 Hobby Boss kit.
This static model kit contains over 90 parts with five clear components for cockpit and canopy. Measuring 159.8 mm long and 161 mm across the wings, the kit gives a faithful outline and comes finished in a US Navy camouflage scheme on the decal sheet.
Builders should expect careful part handling and precise gluing for best results. When completed, the F9F-2P makes an attractive display piece for collections centred on early jets and naval aviation.
