Savage Gearbox Shell in Purple Alloy

This alloy gearbox shell is an aftermarket housing created for the HPI Savage Nitro Off Road Series. Built from aluminium and anodised purple, the unit replaces the stock housing to provide a rigid foundation for gear alignment and to protect drivetrain components under aggressive use.

Role and benefits: improved chassis resilience and easier tuning. The aluminium housing keeps gear mesh more stable under heavy loads and helps when setting spur height or changing bearings. It is supplied as the housing only; internal gears and bearings must be reused or purchased separately.

Fitting advice: remove the OEM plastic housing and transfer internals into the alloy shell. Preserve original fasteners if they fit and double check mesh and backlash after installation. Confirm screw lengths and spacers to ensure no interference with the motor pinion or spur gear.

Use this aluminium gearbox housing to achieve a firmer mounting surface and more consistent drivetrain behaviour on HPI Savage kits, ideal for hobbyists wanting robust alignment without changing gear ratios.

No machining is normally needed; the housing is sized for the stock components. Fit the bearings and gears as per original orientation and check clearances during assembly.
Yes, always verify and, if necessary, fine tune the gear mesh because slight differences in housing rigidity can alter the optimal mesh settings.
The alloy housing increases stiffness relative to plastic, which reduces flex under high torque and helps keep alignment stable during demanding running conditions.
Use proper torque to avoid stripping aluminium threads; where possible reuse OEM screws or select correct-grade replacements and tighten to a firm but not excessive setting.
