Rugged insert for tyre truing and shaping

The HUDY 102590 coarse P080 insert is an abrasive sleeve built to strip rubber efficiently on model tyres and to form an initial tyre profile on RC vehicles. Its coarse grain is chosen for fast stock removal rather than polishing.

Installation requires sliding the abrasive over the correct drum mandrel or push-fit core used in truer units and compatible rotary adaptors. Verify the drum runs true on its mandrel to avoid wobble and uneven wear. Use controlled, light strokes and avoid forcing the tool into the tyre.

For tuning workflows, use this insert first to remove high spots and bulk material, then move to finer grits to refine the contact patch and finish. Clean the abrasive periodically and change the sleeve when performance drops due to glazing.

Longevity depends on usage and pressure; for hobby-level shaping expect several sessions before glazing, then replace the sleeve to maintain cutting efficiency.

Is this suitable for foam tyres?

The coarse P080 is aggressive and may be too rough for delicate foam tyres; test on a scrap piece first or use finer abrasives for foam.
