The Grumman F-14A Tomcat is a landmark US Navy fighter, recognised for its swing-wing design, twin tails and two-seat tandem cockpit. Powered by General Electric afterburning turbofans, the jet could exceed Mach 2.3. Its standard armament included the 20 mm M61 Vulcan and long-range AIM-54 Phoenix missiles.
The Italeri 1/72 rendition presents the Tomcat's main features with clarity. Parts layout supports a straightforward build while allowing modellers to add paintwork and finishing touches to emphasise panel detail and cockpit elements.
Having served through several late 20th century operations, the F-14A remains a popular subject for collectors. The completed model displays well on shelves and forms a strong complement to other Cold War era aircraft.
