1/72 P-38J Lightning by Italeri - Twin-Boom Wartime Fighter

The Italeri 1/72 Lockheed P-38J Lightning kit reproduces a striking WWII fighter design. The operational P-38J was driven by two V-1710 Allison engines at 1,425 horsepower each, enabling speeds in excess of 660 km/h and making it effective on long missions across diverse theatres.

The kit reflects the aircrafts central cockpit and twin-tail booms and highlights the heavy forward armament, represented as four Browning 12.7 mm machine guns and a Hispano M2 cannon. The P-38Js endurance and firepower made it a valued asset for bomber escort duties and strike operations, despite differing flight characteristics from single-engine types.

This kit is best for intermediate modellers. It requires careful handling of small components and attention to alignment for the twin-boom assembly.
Basic cockpit detail is moulded into the kit. For enhanced realism, consider aftermarket resin seats or instrument decals to improve the interior look.
Mask carefully and paint small gun barrels with a fine brush or micro airbrush. A thin wash later helps define the barrel housings and panel lines.
Apply a clear gloss before decals, then seal with a satin or matte varnish. Subtle weathering and panel line shading will make the finished model stand out on a shelf.
