This Italeri 15765 kit represents the Sd. Kfz. 182 Panzer VI Ausf. B, better known as the Tiger II or King Tiger. Entering service around mid-1944, it featured a redesigned chassis, heavier sloped front armour, and the long 8.8 cm KwK 43 L/71 gun which improved anti-armour performance.
The heavy tank was powered by a Maybach V-12 engine that enabled road speeds up to about 42 km/h despite a weight close to 70 tonnes. Two main turret styles were used during production, the early Porsche type and the more common Henschel turret, both fitted to carry substantial ammunition loads.
In 1/56 scale the model balances manageable size with recognisable detail, making it ideal for wargames tables and museum-style displays. The kit is straightforward to build and ships with one figure to help stage historical vignettes such as Normandy, July 1944.
