The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a notable design from the jet age, recognised for its slender fuselage and high-speed capability. From its debut in the 1950s, the platform evolved through many variants and saw extended service life. The TF-104G is the dedicated two-seat trainer version derived from the combat F-104, intended to prepare pilots for operational single-seat types.
Although the TF-104G does not carry the 20 mm cannon or central weapons pylon of single-seat fighters, it shares the General Electric J79 turbojet, making it a faithful training platform. This configuration was used in NATO training units across countries including Belgium, Norway, Spain and Italy.
Italeri's kit presents fine engraved surface detail plus well-developed internal assemblies. Key areas such as the engine bay, cockpit and avionics compartment are modelled for display. The builder can choose open or closed air brakes and select from two decal sheets that depict eight different aircraft variants.
