The Italeri 3110 Leonardo da Vinci Helicopter model kit interprets a late 15th century concept from the Codex Atlanticus. Known as the "aerial screw", the design proposed a five metre wooden rotor wrapped in starched linen, rotated by the muscle power of four men to produce lift.
Although Leonardo's helicopter was never constructed, the drawing highlights his inventive approach to flight. This Italeri 3110 kit lets hobbyists reconstruct that moment of invention, offering a distinctive display that links art, science and early aeronautical thinking.
The moulded PS plastic parts are intended to evoke the timber frame and fabric covering. Careful trimming and glueing, followed by subtle painting, will produce the best results. The finished model displays well in a cabinet or as part of a themed collection on the history of flying machines.
