Does this protect against axle and gear misalignment?

The plate helps shield the lower gear area and can reduce impact stress, but it does not change internal gear alignment. Check gear mesh separately during maintenance.

Can I repaint the gunmetal finish?

You can refinish the surface with suitable metal paint, though the factory gunmetal is applied for durability and corrosion resistance.

Will this affect ground clearance significantly?

The underguard is designed to follow the chassis profile and should have minimal effect on ground clearance, but measure fitment if you run very low setups.
