Perfect Gundam PF-78-1 (MG 1/100) — a beefed-up RX-78 inspired build

This Master Grade 1/100 kit portrays the PF-78-1 Perfect Gundam as a beefed-up RX-78 inspired platform. The concept of increased armour and firepower is expressed in the kit through a detailed inner frame, separate armour shells, and substantial part separation to highlight mechanical structure.

Complexity and recommended toolkit

Difficulty: advanced. Assembly combines an inner frame with a large number of separate armour components that demand precise cutting and fitting. Useful tools include cutter pliers, hobby knife, sanding sticks and needle files; panel lining tools enhance recessed detailing.

Surface work and painting advice

For a cleaner finish, address seams between armour parts and remove sprue marks with light sanding. Painting and sealing will alter the final presentation; masking may be required for multi-colour areas but is optional for a basic straight build.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/100
  • Grade: MG
  • Build Level: advanced

The kit emphasises structural detail and visible part separation, supported by a Master Grade inner frame designed for expressive posing and layered armour displays.

Primary articulation comes at the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, with additional joints in the torso and ankles to support dynamic poses while maintaining armour alignment.
Minor trimming or sanding at connection points can improve panel fit. Most pieces fit well with careful cleanup, but a small amount of adjustment is common on Master Grade builds.
Paint is not required for assembly, but applying paint, washes and topcoat will significantly enhance panel definition and give the kit a more realistic, display-grade finish.
The PF-78-1 design uses bespoke armour and internal geometry. Some small parts might interchange with modification, but direct swaps are generally limited.
