Fujimi FJ-43310 Precision Photo-Etch for 1/700 Shokaku

This 1/700 photo-etched detail pack adds slim metal components to enhance models of the IJN aircraft carrier Shokaku, bringing crisper surface detail and more accurate fittings to the deck and superstructure.

The IJN carrier Shokaku served as the class leader in the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Second World War. Entering service before major Pacific campaigns, Shokaku took part in significant carrier engagements in 1942 and remained active until her loss in 1944. The design prioritised larger air complements and improved flight deck arrangements over earlier designs.

The included parts are thin, finely patterned metal replacements and enhancements for small external fittings that are difficult to capture in injection-moulded plastic at 1/700 scale. The pack contains two 25mm machine cannon parts formed as separate etched items, proportioned for accurate appearance on the carrier deck and superstructure. Typical applications involve substituting railings, gun shields, and other visible details; assembly benefits from a bending tool, fine tweezers, and cyanoacrylate adhesive for attachment.

Offered as a detailing upgrade rather than a full kit, the set requires patient bending and precise placement to align with the host kit geometry; plan trimming and test-fitting prior to permanent bonding. Follow standard priming and painting routines for brass or nickel photo-etched alloys.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/700
  • Format: Photo-etched detail set
  • Material: Photo-etched metal
  • Includes: Two 25mm machine cannon parts

A compact, targeted photo-etched set aimed at improving small-deck fittings and the twin 25mm cannon profile, ideal for modellers pursuing clean, display-ready results.

Photo-etched parts offer much finer scale profile than plastic but require careful bending and alignment. Fit can be excellent when parts are test-fit and adjusted to the host kit before gluing.
The etched cannon parts are sized for accurate profile at 1/700 scale and will generally present a more accurate silhouette than many moulded equivalents; some kit-specific trimming may be needed for perfect mating.
Cyanoacrylate adhesive is commonly recommended for bonding etched metal to plastic. For metal-to-metal joins, thin-cure CA or tiny amounts of epoxy are options depending on the required strength.
A parts sheet and reference diagram are typically provided. Builders should use these as a guide and perform dry fits to ensure parts align with their chosen host kit.
