Performance and Tuning Notes

The Yokomo YOKPG6442 is a 64 pitch 42-tooth pinion built to replace factory motor pinions in 64-pitch gear setups. By altering the pinion tooth count relative to the spur, you can tune vehicle acceleration and top speed characteristics.

Installation notes: ensure the pinion is compatible with your 64-pitch spur and that the motor shaft style matches the pinion bore and set-screw layout. Start with a cautious mesh, check for uniform tooth contact, then refine the lateral position to optimise engagement. While tightening the set-screw(s), steady the motor to prevent slippage, and re-evaluate gear mesh after a short run to confirm correct seating.

Tuning guidance: incremental changes to pinion size will shift the performance curve; treat the 42-tooth as one test point in tuning. After fitting, watch for excessive heat, odd noises, or signs of tooth wear and adjust mesh or pinion height as necessary. Regular maintenance involves clearing debris from gear teeth and inspecting for any burrs or damage that could accelerate wear on either gear.

Remark :
Due to limited stock availability, please notice that some Yokomo items may have to order from the factory and the ready time is around 4-6 weeks. Customer purchases the item is assumed to accept the waiting time which allows us to order directly from the manufacturer if the item is out of our warehouse.
A larger pinion tooth count generally raises top speed while reducing acceleration. Use the 42-tooth as part of stepwise testing to find the balance that suits your setup and track conditions.
Listen for grinding, check for heat build up, and inspect teeth for abnormal wear. If any of these appear, loosening the mesh slightly and rechecking engagement often resolves the issue.
