Capture a Classic 1977 Grand Prix Racer

The Tamiya 12044 - 1/12 Scale Wolf WR1 1977 model kit recreates the agile Formula One car that shone in the 1977 season. Designed by Harvey Postlethwaite for Walter Wolf Racing and raced by Jody Scheckter, the WR1 is represented here with an emphasis on mechanical accuracy and scale presence.

Mechanical fidelity and assembly highlights

At 349mm long, 164mm wide and 79mm high, this model features coil spring suspension front and rear and a functioning rack and pinion steering mechanism. The DFV engine model includes detailed fuel piping and ignition components to give the build a workshop-accurate feel.

Show off the internals with removable covers

Front and cockpit fairings detach so you can display the engine bay and cockpit layout. The kit is supplied with Cartograf decals for the 1977 Japan GP appearance, plus etched metal parts and seatbelts to improve cockpit detail, and synthetic rubber tyres for an authentic finish.

Yes, the detachable nose and cockpit panels allow you to present the engine and cockpit details after completion.
If decals are damaged, aftermarket or custom-printed Cartograf-style decals can be sourced from specialist suppliers to match the 1977 livery.
Fine tweezers, a sharp hobby knife, and a magnifier will make handling and fitting the tiny DFV components and photo-etched pieces much easier.
Painting sub-assemblies like the cockpit and engine before mating parts gives cleaner results and easier access to small areas.
