• Hoping to protect their 1980 manufacturers title, the Honda team competed into the 1981 Endurance World Championships utilizing the RS1000. Fitted with an air-cooled 4-cylinder DOHC 999cc engine effective at 150hp, the RS1000 showcased all the latest Honda technology that had been fine-tuned during their domination of stamina race into the belated 70's. An original aspect of the 1981 bicycle had been specially created cowling that had been somewhat increased to reduce driver tiredness during the grueling races. Although unsuccessful in defending their 1980 title, the Honda group was able to take out both prestigious Suzuka 8-Hour stamina Race plus the Bol d Or 24 hour race.
