The 1970 model 12 months, BMW established three brand new models having motor capabilities of 500 cc (R50/5), 600 cc (R60/5), and 750 cc (R75/5). The R75/5 could reach 110 miles per hour (177 km/h). The "slash-5" series arrived on the scene simply eventually to meet the rising interest in sport bikes. All so-called "/5" models were manufactured at BMW's factory in Spandau suburb of Berlin, BMW having transmitted all motorcycle production there from Munich into the belated 1960s. BMW had stopped manufacturing in Munich for the last Slash-2 models, making use of their Earles forks, kick beginners, 6 volt electrical systems, antiquated brake system, and frames descended from pre-war BMWs to be used with sidecars.
