Since its debut in 1967 the Honda Monkey has been known for compact engineering and a cheeky look, powered by a 50cc air-cooled engine mounted in a bright red frame. The bike's foldable handlebars and seat made it easy to store in limited spaces, and incremental changes like better suspension and larger wheels helped evolve the model.
Honda marked the 40th anniversary in December 2006 with a distinct edition featuring red wheels, a black fuel tank and a checkered seat. Tamiya's 1/6 scale kit honours that edition, enabling builders to recreate the anniversary styling with accurate parts and finishes.
The model kit captures anniversary-specific touches with vinyl stickers for the checkered seat and metal-plated components for items such as the muffler protector and handlebars. Separately-moulded tank and side cover emblems add to the realism.
Functional suspension with metal damper springs and foldable handlebars reflect the original design. The engine is modelled closely, including vinyl tubing to simulate hoses, and the kit supplies alternate muffler and damper pieces for personalising the final build.
