Futuristic looks with competition-focused design
The Tamiya Ray Spear (VZ) is a Mini 4WD model that combines a futuristic body concept with practical racing features, designed by the same creator responsible for the Dual Ridge Jr. and DCR-01. It presents a good mix of eye appeal and track function.
Shell construction and styling cues
The body is moulded in clear green ABS and includes a detachable canopy so you can switch between open and closed styles. The unit runs on dark silver spiral type 6-spoke wheels and black, small diameter super hard low-profile tyres that complement the model's streamlined profile.
VZ chassis layout and performance
The VZ chassis delivers a compact, lightweight platform with reinforced areas at the bumper and rear stay base for added strength. It incorporates low-friction POM 620 plastic bearings to help reduce energy loss, and the kit specifies a 3.5:1 gear ratio.
Modding and upgrade possibilities
There is a wide array of Grade-Up Parts available to refine acceleration, top speed, and handling. Motor swaps, tyre selection, and gear changes are common upgrades to suit different track demands.
Assembly notes
Parts are colour-moulded to make assembly more straightforward. A Type 130 motor is supplied, and the car is powered by two AA batteries which are not included in the kit.
