Overview of Tamiya 18656 Roborace DevBot 2.0 1/32

The Roborace DevBot 2.0 condensed into 1/32 scale provides a clean, futuristic Mini 4WD model. As the Tamiya 18656 kit, it mounts on the MA (Midship AERO) chassis to blend aerodynamic styling with a predictable chassis platform for both show pieces and on-track performance.

Why the MA Chassis Works

With the motor positioned centrally, the MA chassis improves aerodynamic balance and centre of gravity. The layout includes six low-friction rollers and a rear skid bar to enhance cornering stability. The monocoque frame design keeps assembly straightforward for first-timers while allowing experienced modders to pursue finer setup changes. A 3.5:1 gear ratio is part of the kit.

Materials and Styling Notes

The body is formed from Flat Black ABS and gets fluorescent orange POM accents for contrast. The four-piece construction is finished with decals to mimic stripe and LED details. Black fin wheels paired with low-profile tyres give the model a race-ready silhouette.

Mods, Power and Consumables

The model supports numerous Grade-Up Parts so you can tune gearing, reduce weight or alter handling. It arrives with a Type 130 double shaft motor included, and it runs on two AA batteries which are not included in the kit.

Basic modelling tools such as side cutters, a hobby knife, a small Phillips screwdriver and tweezers are sufficient. Optional fine files and sprue cleaners help improve fit and finish.
The Type 130 delivers reliable drive for club racing and casual competition; swapping to high-performance motors is an option for more aggressive tuning.
Yes, the decal sheets are designed for straightforward application. Use a small pair of scissors and a wetting solution or careful alignment with tweezers for best results.
