The IJN Battleship Yamato represents the peak of battleship construction in its era, launched at Kure in August 1940. Built to exceed treaty limits, Yamato combined huge displacement with heavy armament. Tamiya's 1/700 waterline kit replicates the ship's profile and key fittings for a convincing small-scale model.
Work on Yamato began in 1934 amid restrictions from the 1922 Washington Treaty. The vessel was intended to outclass opponents, highlighted by its 46cm gun turrets that gave it unmatched firepower. This kit reflects those signature design choices at scale for modellers to study and display.
The Tamiya 31113 set includes precision-moulded grey and red plastic parts plus clear pieces for windows and fittings. The kit provides main guns, a deck crane, flag and separate float planes that need assembly. Lifeboats are supplied and a metal piece is included to aid flotation in a waterline presentation.
Finished models offer clear scale presence and accurate detail that make them suitable for themed displays or grouped fleet layouts. The compact waterline format keeps the model manageable while still conveying Yamato's imposing design.
