The Tamiya 1/700 Japanese Aircraft Carrier Shinano kit is a hands-on project for enthusiasts who enjoy naval modelling. Converted from a Yamato-class hull into a carrier, Shinano stands out in WWII history for its scale and the strategic shift it reflects.
Entering service in November 1944, Shinano was around 266 metres long with a displacement near 62,000 tons. Built with robust armour and a reinforced flight deck, the ship nevertheless sank shortly after commissioning when struck by a submarine attack.
This model replicates the hull form and interior hangar under the flight deck, showing lineage to Yamato and Musashi. The kit lets you pose the front and rear aircraft lifts either up or down, which helps create dynamic displays.
Included are 32 aircraft such as Ryusei models, moulded in clear plastic to permit realistic cockpit treatments. The model also features a detailed bridge, sloping funnel and assorted weapon systems, making it well suited to shelf displays and museum-style presentations.
