The Mogami class cruiser Mikuma, completed in 1935 and later refitted with heavier main guns, took part in key operations such as the Malay landings and the Battle of Sunda Strait. It was critically damaged at Midway, a point of interest for naval modellers recreating Pacific War subjects.
This Tamiya release captures the Mikuma's silhouette and bridge arrangement with high-quality moulding. Gun turrets, torpedo tubes and other fittings are crisply reproduced, and the design includes rotating main turrets facilitated by polycaps for dynamic displays.
The split-hull construction helps achieve accurate hull lines, while the main superstructure and rear mast are modelled to reflect the original ship. The parts fit and engineering are aimed at hobbyists who want a faithful finished model.
