The USS Missouri is a standout example of Iowa class battleship design, active from 1944. Her service included major Pacific operations and she is famed as the site where Japan signed its surrender on September 2, 1945.
Iowa class vessels such as BB-61 Iowa and BB-62 New Jersey combined fast hulls with heavy main guns, boasting 40.6cm batteries and speeds up to 33 knots. Missouri was modernised in 1986 with updated armaments and electronics, served in multiple conflicts, and was finally retired in 1993.
The Tamiya 1/700 kit recreates the ship's long hull and superstructure with precise moulding. It includes rotating main turrets and detailed smaller armaments including 40mm and 20mm mounts. The kit also contains parts for two floatplane types: Vought OS2U Kingfishers and Curtiss SC-1 Seahawks.
Visitors can inspect the preserved Battleship Missouri to study its layout and markings. Tamiya relied on historical documentation to reproduce faithful details for accurate scale modelling.
