The Tamiya 31806 kit models two distinguished Royal Navy ships from the Second World War: the battle cruiser Hood and representatives of the E Class destroyers. Hood entered service in May 1920 and, at 48,360 tons displacement, was among the largest warships of her generation and served as a prominent fleet flagship.
On May 23, 1941, Hood joined Prince of Wales and several destroyers to intercept the German capital ship Bismarck and cruiser Prinz Eugen. During that action Hood suffered a catastrophic hit from Bismarck and was lost with 1,416 crew members.
The included E Class destroyers Echo and Electra were built in 1934, displacing approximately 1,350 tons and capable of about 36 knots. These destroyers performed convoy escort and other duties in Arctic and Mediterranean waters and saw action across different theaters.
This Tamiya 1/700 scale kit delivers fine detail across both ship types. The assembled Hood spans 375mm while each E Class model is 143mm, offering a realistic sense of scale. Hull forms, bridges and deck fittings are carefully sculpted for authenticity.
Builders will appreciate functional features such as moveable main guns and torpedo launchers mounted with polycaps. The E Class hulls are split into left and right halves to make construction simpler, and decals include marking choices for all nine E Class vessels for varied display options.
