The Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. B mounted a 75mm L24 short-barrel gun in a fixed casemate on the Panzer III chassis, avoiding a turret and keeping a lower profile. This configuration served well as a direct fire support vehicle and remains a favourite subject for armour model builders.
Mass production of the Ausf. B started in June 1940, producing over 250 examples. It saw action in the Balkans and in the opening phases of the invasion of the Soviet Union, where it provided essential fire support for infantry and anti-tank tasks.
Tamiya's 1/48 kit is moulded with attention to scale detail and includes a die-cast lower hull for added realism. Assembly requires glue, and the kit supplies three decal options so modelers can choose different wartime schemes for display or modelling competitions.
