Ordered by the Japanese Navy in World War II to support airfield construction, the Komatsu G40 was notable as Japan's first domestically manufactured bulldozer. Only 148 units were produced and wartime conditions prevented many from being deployed as planned. One survivor is preserved at the Komatsu Techo Center in Shizuka and was designated a Mechanical Engineering Heritage item by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2007.
Tamiya's 1/48 model recreates the G40's form with careful moulding and accurate small-scale components. The kit shows routed hydraulic lines and includes a metal transfer IJN emblem for the front grille, delivering a focused assembly project for military modelling fans.
