The Marder II, designated Sd.Kfz. 131, was produced from 1942 using the Panzer II chassis fitted with the 75mm PaK 40. It was a mobile anti-tank solution that favoured concealment and ambush tactics, remaining in frontline roles on the Eastern Front until more advanced vehicles arrived.
Tamiya's 1/35 rendition faithfully presents the Marder II with an open superstructure that exposes the gun breech and nearby shell cases. The kit offers a movable 75mm main gun, and includes fittings such as the radio rack, wooden boxes and shell cartridges to boost realism.
The kit provides a well-paced build and results in a strong display piece for military model collections. It includes belt-type tracks and two crew figures to enhance scenes. With waterslide decals and a clear pictorial instruction sheet, intermediate modellers can achieve a neat result. The gun travel lock can be modelled stowed or deployed to vary the presentation.
