Concerning the M577 demand post

Type classified in March 1963 as a mobile demand post, the M577 has additionally been utilized as a mobile industry help station, artillery fire direction center, and communications automobile. Basically a vertically expanded M113 armored workers provider, the interior of this M577 was reconfigured to allow for extra communications gear, map and tactical information panels, industry desks or artillery plotting tables, and extra crewmembers. Each 577 is equipped with an externally installed electric generator effective at powering the additional gear to lessen loading regarding the vehicle's inherit electric system. Furthermore, each M577 has an integrated expandable shelter which is often implemented if the car is fixed. In a tactical situation, multiple M577 shelters are connected together to create a specific working space. Such as the M113, the M577 is amphibious, and it is built with a diagram for load equalization, necessary to counteract the M577s high center of gravity. The M577 is equipped with a standard M113 driver's hatch and an individual car commander's hatch centered in the roof of this automobile. The commander's position has a pintle machine weapon mount which could accommodate either an M2 HB caliber .50 machine weapon, an M60 7.62mm machine weapon, or a Mk19 40mm grenade launcher. The automobile is equipped with a motor driven Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, purification system which supplies the team with purified atmosphere via a protective mask hose coupling, but does not over pressurize the team compartment. As it's introduction, over 4,000 M577, M577A1, and M577A2 demand cars were produced for the United States Army.
