The JGSDF Type 74 was developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and accepted into service in 1974, bringing modern firepower to Japan's armoured forces. It is fitted with the L7A1 105mm main gun and a period fire control system. This kit recreates the winter livery used to blend into snowy terrain.
Created as a successor to the Type 61, the Type 74 was intended to provide improved battlefield performance. The winter adaptation incorporates white and green disruptive paint and appropriate field kit to suit cold weather operations.
Tamiya's 1/35 model shows fine moulded details such as the cast-steel turret texture and the laser range finder on the fire control assembly. Winter items like skis for crew gear are included to help craft an authentic scene.
