Overview of the Tamiya 1/35 German Tiger I Early Production kit

The Tiger I stood out for heavy armour and the 8.8cm KwK 36 L/56 main gun, making its first combat appearance in North Africa at the end of 1942. After Henschel and Porsche submitted competing designs, the Henschel version was chosen and entered production around August 1942. Subsequent fitments, including air pre-cleaners and beefed-up mantlets, were added, with November 1942 to July 1943 marking the early production span.

What the kit includes and how it builds

Tamiya's 1/35 scale kit recreates the early Tiger I with over 200 detailed parts, providing a thorough assembly that emphasises external accuracy and selected turret internals. A commander figure is supplied to improve display options, while the single-piece flexible rubber tracks simplify installation and give a neat finished appearance.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/35
  • Material: Dark grey plastic
  • Parts Count: Over 200
  • Assembly: Glue required
  • Tracks: Single piece flexible rubber
Yes. The kit includes some internal turret items such as the gun breech and crew seats that add depth if you model open hatches.
The tracks are single-piece flexible rubber designed for durability and easier fitting; they are less fragile than separate link track systems but should still be handled carefully during painting and assembly.
Standard polystyrene model cement or liquid solvent glue is appropriate for the dark grey plastic parts. Use cyanoacrylate for any quick repairs or attaching the rubber tracks if necessary.
