The Tiger I stood out for heavy armour and the 8.8cm KwK 36 L/56 main gun, making its first combat appearance in North Africa at the end of 1942. After Henschel and Porsche submitted competing designs, the Henschel version was chosen and entered production around August 1942. Subsequent fitments, including air pre-cleaners and beefed-up mantlets, were added, with November 1942 to July 1943 marking the early production span.
Tamiya's 1/35 scale kit recreates the early Tiger I with over 200 detailed parts, providing a thorough assembly that emphasises external accuracy and selected turret internals. A commander figure is supplied to improve display options, while the single-piece flexible rubber tracks simplify installation and give a neat finished appearance.
