The US M8 Greyhound was a compact armoured car used during World War II for reconnaissance and escort tasks. Design work started in 1941 and Ford produced a prototype by June 1942. The Greyhound used a Hercules JXD engine with 110 horsepower and reached up to 88.5 km/h, offering considerable mobility for its role.
Though originally intended for armored support, the M8 proved most useful as a scout vehicle because of its speed. It used a 6-wheel chassis and armor thickness varied from 19 mm to 32 mm. The turret was open from the top and carried a 12.7 mm M2 machine gun. The type served in Europe and the Pacific, with production exceeding 8,523 units during 1943-1945.
Tamiya's rendition in 1/35 scale comes with crisply molded plastic parts that represent interior and exterior detail faithfully. The kit features a realistic chassis and suspension, a crew figure and assorted field gear to enhance display potential. Waterslide decals and a clear instruction manual support a satisfying assembly process.
