The Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. B was developed as a direct-fire support vehicle on the Panzer III chassis. Using a fixed L24 75mm short gun and no turret reduced its target profile and simplified manufacture, making it effective in both assault and anti-tank roles.
Production of the Ausf. B began in June 1940 with 250 units built. It ran on wide tracks and was powered by a Maybach HL 120 TRM rated at 230hp, with a top speed around 40km/h. The type saw action in the Balkans and during the 1941 eastern campaigns. Across all StuG III models, production exceeded 10,000 units.
This 1/35 kit from Tamiya reproduces key interior and outer features. Included are an aluminium gun barrel and a photo-etched mesh cover for the engine intake to lift the realism. Interior mouldings show equipment like the loader mechanism and wireless set.
The model features swing-arm suspension and comes with three decal schemes plus a commander figure. The gun can be positioned up or down after assembly, offering display flexibility for dioramas or shelf presentation.
