The JS-2, bearing Joseph Stalin's initials, entered frontline service in 1944 and offered Soviet forces a heavy-hitting tank. Designed to meet the threat of German 88mm guns and to take on heavy tanks like the Tiger and Panther, it mounted the A-19 122mm main gun and featured armour up to around 120mm in key sections. The Model 1944 stands out because of its distinctive muzzle brake and the sloped front glacis that improve ballistic protection.
Tamiya's 1/35 scale kit faithfully renders the JS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ, reproducing signature details such as the muzzle brake and sloped glacis. The kit comes with photo-etched parts to sharpen the look of the engine intake grille and other fine areas. Modellers can pick between belt-type and assembly-type tracks depending on their preferred assembly technique. The package also includes a commander figure and a loader torso that add character to finished builds and dioramas.
