Introduced in 1936, the Toyota Model AB Phaeton marked a stage in Toyota's early production, succeeding the AA. It was driven by a 3.4-liter inline-6 and reflected American design trends of the period. Original ABs had a folding canvas roof, a movable front windscreen and front-hinged doors. With the outbreak of World War II most were repurposed into military staff cars painted khaki, and production totalled 353 units.
Tamiya's 1/35 model of the Toyota AB Phaeton recreates these historic elements in scale, drawing on surviving examples to reproduce authentic lines and details for modellers.
