Machine gun teams were a lynchpin of infantry firepower in World War II, supplying sustained support to frontline units. These teams, often five men strong, combined leadership, gun operation and ammunition supply to keep weapons like the MG42 firing. The MG42, rolled out in 1942, gained a reputation for its very high rate of fire and dependable range.
The Tamiya kit recreates a soldier assigned to the MG42 tripod, with an early Walther pistol holster and options for a helmeted or unhelmeted pose. The tripod is constructed from more than ten parts, delivering crisp mechanical detail. Included decals and a display base make it straightforward to arrange the figure with other models for a convincing vignette.
The sculpt captures the 1936 field uniform with its distinctive green collar trim used at the war's outset. The later 1940 uniform moved to an all-green finish to improve concealment and simplify production steps.
