Released for post-war service in the early 1950s, the M47 Patton succeeded the M46 and featured an 810hp gasoline engine with top speeds near 48 km/h. Its main armament was an L/50 rifled gun and it commonly used a stereoscopic rangefinder. The Tamiya kit recreates the configuration adopted by West Germany during the mid-1950s.
The M47 served as a visible element of NATO forces throughout Western Europe. German units fitted the tank with characteristic accessories, and this kit highlights items such as smoke dischargers and rain guards that model makers can replicate faithfully.
At 1/35 scale the kit provides a satisfying build that rewards attention to small parts and finishing. Once assembled and painted the model becomes a standout piece in any Cold War armour collection or diorama.
