2006 saw four manufacturers, BMW, Alfa Romeo, SEAT, and Chevrolet, compete the World Touring Car Championships. With BMW having all but sown up the Manufacturer's Championship inside 2nd final round of the season, the last competition brought close to a thrilling finish to see which BMW team motorist would claim the motorists' Champion-ship. The growing season finished with BMW Team UK driver Andy Priaulx winning the championship by the slightest of margins, 1 point over BMW Team Germany motorist Jorg Muller.
