The rugged yet refined G-Class has been a benchmark since 1979, and the G 320 Cabriolet produced between 1997 and 2001 is a striking two-door expression of that lineage. Tamiya translates that presence into the 58629-60A RC kit built atop the adaptable MF-01X 4WD chassis.
The MF-01X chassis is laid out to suit both paved circuits and smoother off-road tracks. Its monocoque frame encloses the gearboxes and sports a rear-mounted motor for tidy packaging. A gear-driven arrangement directs torque to the rear while a propeller shaft engages the front; differential gears on both ends help with traction distribution and cornering predictability.
Central battery placement helps maintain a neutral center of gravity for controlled handling. Four independent double wishbone suspension arms with friction dampers smooth out irregularities. Semi-pneumatic rubber tyres with scale treads contribute both to the look and to usable traction on mixed surfaces.
The chassis allows wheelbase selection among 210mm, 225mm and 239mm using the supplied spacer blocks and optional shafts. Included M-05Ra uprights and hub carriers form a solid base, and advanced builders can fit Item 54614 M-05 Ver.II Carbon Reinforced L parts to fine tune rebound and stiffness.
For modders who value scale accuracy and a chassis that reacts well to setup changes, the Tamiya G 320 Cabriolet on the MF-01X is a rewarding platform for both display and driving.
