The McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II epitomises 1960s fighter development, with its maiden flight on May 27, 1966. Fitted with General Electric J-29GE-10 turbo jet engines, the type was used extensively for air superiority and strike duties.
The F-4J served with distinction and recorded important aerial victories, including the Marine downing of a MiG-21. Tamiya's 1/32 interpretation captures scale cockpit detail, accurate undercarriage and authentic stores for a convincing display model.
Assembly of this kit provides a satisfying balance of challenge and reward. The build includes die-cast landing gear, solid synthetic rubber tyres and options for canopy position, while a one-piece fuselage helps with alignment for final finishing.
