The Spitfire Mk.VIII built on earlier designs with improvements such as a larger rudder, Merlin 60 series engine installation, and retractable tail gear. Introduced during 1943, it served across multiple fronts including the Mediterranean and Pacific and was tested against fighters like the Luftwaffe's best and the Japanese Zero.
Tamiya's 1/32 Spitfire Mk.VIII kit captures the aircrafts proportions and surface textures, with parts for extended wingtips and precise fitting panels. Builders can choose landing gear positions using magnetic fittings and display the model in flight using the supplied stand for dramatic presentation.
The model represents the Mk.VIII weapons fit of two 20mm cannons plus four 7.7mm machine guns, and models the Rolls Royce Merlin engine with removable cowlings to reveal internal details. Control surfaces are moulded to allow realistic poses and additional fuel tanks are provided as options.
